My research encompasses a range of topics including political leadership, distributive politics, and public opinion in nondemocratic systems. My dissertation examines the roles of informal patronage networks in facilitating elite cohesion and promoting local development in China. My research has been funded by the Ford Foundation and the National Science Foundation.
