At first I tried to solve this using a method called Level Manager, separating the menus and game into different as files and having a main as file that controls them. However this turned out to be very difficult. In the end I put the menu directly into the main file and put all the elements from the game in a new function that wont run until the start button is pressed. Now all I need to do is fix minor bugs and add some details before my game is complete.
