Have we fallen behind? This is maybe where Cynthia Self and Pamela Takayoshi are alluding to in their article Thinking about Multimodality. With the idea that multimodal texts are aggressively attacking the academic essay, an instructor also has to be aware of the globalized process these multimodal texts are creating.

If all printers were determined not to print anything till they were sure it would offend nobody, there would be very little printed. Writing in the classroom? This pedagogical style raised a bunch of questions and concerns. Besides the obvious concerns about the digital divide, I wondered, in what ways, if any, would students writing be different? Would I be a different writer? What are benefits and what are the disadvantages of this strategy in the composition classroom.
